• Learn foundational dance vocabulary and body technique of Zambra dancing inspired by Lola Flores, including:

• Develop body awareness: What parts of the body are moving, initiating, or directing the movement? What is the relationship between the various parts of the body? 

• Work on the expressive elements of dance masterfully demonstrated by Lola Flores.
• Learn to create rhythmic accents and remates with different parts of the body.
• Learn to create impressive “power pauses” after remates
• Contrast in movements:
• Gravity: (heavy/light) - Sensitivity to the earth.
• Space: (direct/indirect) - Precise or sinuous use of space.
• Flow: (controlled/free) - Continuity and freedom in movement.
• Time: (sudden/sustained) - Speed and duration of sequences.

• Explore various spatial trajectories (pathways) for choreography and improvisation.

• We perfect the relationship with the music, we feel in the body how the lyrics and melismas create structure and open possibilities for expression and interpretation.
• We explore rhythmic resources in Zambra including pitos, taconeos, and body percussion.
• We deepen the relationship with artistic attire: the genius of Lola Flores in applying bata de cola techniques to skirt dancing, and we learn valuable flamenco skirt techniques that can also be used with many other palos.
• We explore how to take advantage of the “duo effect” for interpretative brilliance, even dancing alone, based on the principles that Laban describes as Action/Response, Lead and Follow, Mirroring, Pairing, Joining and Separating, Echoing, etc.
• We review and integrate the four LMA concepts learned.

Celebration and Awarding of Diplomas: optional presentation of choreographic sequences by the participants.

Absolutely, yes, you can do this! Puela will guide you step-by-step through the creative process, from finding inspiration to crafting verses that fit flamenco's rhythmic structures. You'll have supportive guidance every step of the way.

This workshop is a creative exploration. We will focus on four styles of Flamenco:

• Two binary (Tangos and Tanguillos)
• Two ternary (Campanilleros and Sevillanas Corraleras)

You can choose to focus your creative energy on just one of these styles or explore and try your hand at composing for any of them.

Intermediate level means that you already have an understanding of the rhythmic structure of at least one of those styles. While we will review the rhythmic structure of all four during our time together, please note that we will not be teaching those rhythmic structures from scratch.

This workshop is a safe sanctuary for exploration and creativity:

• No prior writing experience is necessary.

• No singing experience is required (in fact, you don't have to sing at all)

• You'll never be put on the spot or asked to share your work unless you want to.
• The focus is on exploration and understanding how letras fit into the cante—not on becoming a cantaor/a.

• You have total flexibility and freedom of choice in how you work. You can:

  • Go deep into one palo you already know, or

  • Experiment with all four without pressure to “get it right.”

Sharing is encouraged but always voluntary. In this workshop we create a safe, judgment-free, supportive space for creative exploration. You control your comfort level—share what you want when you want. 

No, there are no exams. You receive a certificate of attendance. No need for exams at all.

• You don’t need to sing — ever.
• You don’t need to be a writer or have written letras before.
• You don’t need to know all four palos — one is enough.
• You won’t be put on the spot or asked to perform.
• You won’t be judged or criticized — this is a space for exploration.
• You will be guided step by step within a respectful, creative environment.
• You choose your own level of depth and focus throughout the workshop.

This workshop is about listening, creating, and understanding how letras live inside cante—at your own pace, in your own language, and in your own voice.
